Olhão

Olhão is about 10 kilometer from the airport of Faro and it contains the main fishing port in the Algarve. As most tourists travel to the west of the Algarve,Olhão is still a relatively quiet region.

The town of Olhão has a busy indoor market where a wide range of fish, meat, fruit and vegetables are to be found. The town also has mutiple atmospheric streets and alleys which form a maze if you do not know this authentic town.

The coast of Olhão is best described as a lagoon with islands, inlets and sand banks. This lagoon is a national park and is named: Ria Formosa. The park is approximately 17,000 hectares and has a lot of birds.

Typically is the North African feeling that arises at the sight of the white houses with their flat roofs. The origin for this Nort African look is back in the time of the Moors.
