Silves

The distric of Silves contains the places of Tunes, Silves, São Marcos de Serra, São Bartolomeu de Messines, Pera, Armação de Pêra, Algoz and Alcantarilha.

Silves town is a village about 20 kilometer northeast of Portimão. In this village there is still an impressive ancient Moorish fortres. This old castle above the town, built of clay and red sandstone, is one of the memories of the time of the Moors.

Also an attraction is the Sé Catedral (Cathedral) in addition to the Se da Guarda (the main temple of the Algarve). Silves certainly has kept its charm and authenticity.
