  Sightseeing in the Algarve

If you are coming to the Algarve again soon, think about the following great places to visit:

Praia da Marinha & Praia da Falesia
The Algarve has beautiful sandy and Blue Flag beaches, many of which have won awards. We recommend Praia da Marinha in Carvoeiro or the great sandy beach with the high red cliffs of Falesia.
Silves
Silves is the former capital of the Algarve and throughout the city, there are still memories of its important history, of which the Moorish Castle in the centre is the most striking. The hugely popular Medieval festival is held in August; well worth a visit!
Ilha do Farol & Ilha da Armona
From Olhão or Faro, you take the ferry or taxi boat to the island of Farol. This island is really beautiful and shouldn't be missed. You can also visit the adjacent Ilha Deserta or the beautiful island of Armona.
Ria Formosa
Natural Park Ria Formosa is an absolute must see! This park stretches over an area of 60 kilometres between Faro and Tavira, and consists of all kinds of small islands and a large lagoon. The area is popular with all kinds of migratory birds.
Tavira
The historic town of Tavira is another treasure. There are several cozy restaurants and cafes and Tavira is known for the many churches and its picturesque Roman bridge. Take the train from Santa Luzia to Praia do Barril and enjoy the scenery.
Monchique & Mount Foia
Monchique is fantastic because of the beautiful views and walking routes. In Monchique mountains is located Fóia. This is the highest point of the Algarve and offers a breathtaking view of the Algarve and the coastline.
Local markets
There are various markets in the Algarve that are worth of visiting; the market in Loulé, the gypsy market in Quarteira, the market in Albufeira next to the bus station and the beautiful market in Olhão.
Restaurants
The Algarve has many restaurants with great food and some with phenomenal views. Think of Algar Seco in Carvoeiro, Pedras Amarelas in Galé (Albufeira) and various restaurants in the fashionable marina of Vilamoura.
Alvor
The Lagoon of Alvor and its historic centre are also very nice to visit. Time seems to have stood still in this village. Visit a mini-supermarket in the centre and you will be amazed at the cheap prices!
Sagres & Lagos
A visit to Sagres is definitely worthwhile, as this is the southernmost point of Europe. Also, a visit to the magical rocks of the Ponta da Piedade in Lagos should not be missed; with the setting sun, you can relax and dine at Praia Dona Ana.
Shopping Centres
Finally, for lovers of retail therapy, the Algarve offers the Mar Shopping in Loulé including aDesigner Outlet (alongside Ikea along the A22). There is also an Algarve Shopping in Guia, Forum Shopping in Faro and Aqua Shopping in Portimão.

We hope that these help you to you enjoy your visit to the Algarve.
